PINK PEONY

In this lesson we will paint this pink peony with the bud, integrating two photographs in one composition. The art supplies list you will find in the bottom of this page.

BY STEPS

With wide filbert brush mix yellow, opera and add a small amount of red violet.Paint the top part of the flower, leaving white space between the brush strokes. Change wide side of the brush with it's edge while painting.
Rinse your brush. Mix opera with carmine, take more water. With a very light shade of pink paint the bottom petals. Move the brush from the bottom to the top.
Mix red violet with opera and add a few brush strokes in the centre of the flower and on the edge petals wet on wet.
Add more of red violet and with darker pink paint the bottom petals, leaving the light pink edges.Change the bruhs to the medium round. Load it with carmine mixed with opera.Paint the shadows in the centre of the flower wet on wet.
Change the colour by adding burgundy and red violet. Make a few strokes on the top of the flower, wet on wet.
Ad some violet and burgundy and paint the cast shadows on the bottom petals.
Rinse the brush. Mix opera with red violet and paint the round head of the bud. Mix dark green with violet and paint the shadow on the bottom of it wet on wet.
Rinse the brush and load it with dark green mixed with yellow. Paint the leaves of the bud and stem. Then the stem of the flower.
Paint the leaves. Then add some carmine red into the stems wet on wet.Add some dark green and paint the shadow on the stem under the flower and some on the leaves.
Rinse the brush. Mix carmine with opera and make a few shadows between the petals. Change the colour a little adding more of red violet and make a few more brush strokes painting shadows.Increase the cast shadows on the bottom petals.
Make the colour more dark by adding more of violet and paint some shadows on the top of the flower.
Rinse the brush and get some cobalt mixed with tiny amount of yellow and pink. Make a few strokes showing blue reflections on the sides of the flower. Make the colour more dark by adding violet and some green and increase shadows in the centre of the flower and on the bud. Add more green and make a few thin lines and stroke showing the shadows and texture on the green leaves.
